Student Centered Components

StudentMentoring

For both undergraduate and graduate students across all partner institutions, there is an emphasis on developing the strong mentoring that is necessary to help students succeed academically and professionally. All students will be supported by up to five mentors: a faculty mentor to guide research practice, a writing mentor to improve scientific communication skills, an online mentor at one of the other partner institutions, a NOAA scientist mentor, and a peer mentor who has recently gone through the experiences the new student is facing. Co-advising of thesis projects by NOAA scientists will strengthen student and faculty development. Where necessary, students will be provided with the means to make frequent trips to NOAA labs for data collection and consultations.
